Sound doctrine moves us to grow in our faith. By a person’s doctrine, what he or she believes, everything rises and falls. In Colossians 1:15-20, Paul clarifies the doctrine of Who Jesus is. “All the fullness of God dwelt in Him … He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. “ If you follow Jesus, you can hold nothing back. Sound doctrine emboldens us with a confident trust in God to move from knowledge to action.

Have you ever been so close your dreams – the things you have been the most ambitious about – and just as your fingertips are about to touch it, you are pushed backwards to square one? This delay in ambition can be frustrating and even make you question God. It certainly makes it difficult to remain obedient and patient and often makes you try to fulfill your dream on your own without God. Does this really lead to what God wants for you and isn’t it possible this is why you are often pushed back to square one?

What matters the most to God is not what you do to reach your dreams but how you live while you are waiting for those dreams to come true. God can see far more than we can which is why His plan for each of us is perfect. What you learn on the ambitious journey God has planned for you may end up being more significant than the dream itself.

James 3:13-16 addresses selfish ambition. Ambition often starts altruistic, but like milk, it easily sours. What starts as a purpose for the common good curves inwardly towards individual success. To guard against self-preoccupation, remember the blessings you have nothing to do with that contributed to your accomplishments; such as the family of your birth and your God given gifts. Take the attitude, “I work hard with what I’ve got” instead of the attitude, “I worked hard for what I’ve got.” Stop pursuing your dreams and instead pursue God’s mission.

In Mark 6:30-44 the disciples believed it would be impossible to feed everyone even though Jesus told them they could. Jesus took the five loaves of bread and two fish and fed everyone with 12 baskets left over. We have all been in situations in which the accomplishment of something felt impossible and we have prayed to God for help. Did it still feel impossible? Remember, provision comes in a place of abandonment and surrender. Watch and listen as guest speaker, Dan Turner, shares the gospel about position and provision, expecting God to show up and do great things, and thinking big! God wants us to have the expectation that He will show up and provide.
